What makes Pickering Village different
Most of Ajax was built in waves of subdivisions from the 1970s on. Pickering Village predates that. Right along Old Kingston Road, the old village has a small commercial strip of shops and restaurants and a pocket of century and early 20th-century homes on irregular, tree-lined lots. South of Kingston, between Westney Road and Church Street, most of the neighbourhood is mid-century homes built from the 1950s to the 1980s, with the Duffins Creek ravine running through it. Despite the name, most of the neighbourhood sits within Ajax, not the city of Pickering.
For buyers, it offers character and walkability that the newer parts of town cannot, along with proximity to Highway 401, the Ajax GO station and Pickering Village Museum. For sellers, it means working with an agent who understands how buyers weigh charm, updates, lot and location, because these homes do not price like a standard detached in a subdivision.
The homes
Mid-century homes. South of Old Kingston Road between Westney Road and Church Street, most of the neighbourhood was established through the 1950s to the 1980s, a more affordable way into the area.
Heritage character in the old village. Right along Old Kingston Road itself, a smaller pocket of century and early 20th-century homes, some designated or in the heritage conservation area, many carefully updated over the years.
Custom infill and renovations. Newer homes and full renovations built to fit the streetscape, usually at the top of the neighbourhood’s price range.
